Today was our first work day at Nonnon Farm. We started with breakfast at 6:00 and then went to work in the green house because it was raining. We watered, weeded, and transplanted plants. For watering plants we used the water that comes down from the mountain in gulleys alongside the road. The water straight from the mountain is too cold for the plants so Yoko uses a rubber pipe to put the water in a trough so it can warm up from the sun during the day. When we were done in the green house we filled the trough and then went back to the house for the first tea time. We had a tea that was from Taiwan and a sweetened corn puff kind of snack (which had peanut flavor). After the first tea Yoko showed us how to clean and package eggs for the orders today. After the eggs were packed we went outside to work with Nobuya, farm owner and Yoichiro, his son in law and put in poles for bean plants and we cut and tied the bean shoots to the bamboo poles. Lunch was ready then so we went in and had soup. After lunch we took a 25 minute break and then finished the bean sprouts. Yoko went to her part time job at an elementary school in Bikuni and we had our afternoon tea with and the two men. We talked about walks around here with them and then took a nap. After our nap we went on a walk with Puru, their dog, to the creek and to the beginning of the mountain path.
